Date: 4270… or so I thought.
After much work during the day, we uncovered what seems to be the remnants of a beast that lived almost 1000 years ago! I decided to stay after to clean up the remains as best I could. A few hours passed, when my back started giving me trouble.
“A nice walk should do the trick,” I thought to myself, so I put on a pair of protective, kevlar boots and headed out into the dig for a nice walk. The evening air was refreshing. It wasn’t often that I got to enjoy such luxury, considering we’ve been working nonstop at finding some sort of breakthrough.
The NEO Corporation, our sponsor, has threatened to decline our funding unless we find something worthwhile… To me, breakthroughs cannot be rushed– they are found through diligence and patience. Those corporate bums wouldn’t know, however. Pushing my worries aside, I tried to enjoy the evening air as best I could, before returning to my tent to work.
That’s when I noticed something strange. A blue, pulsating orb struggled to manifest itself within one of our excavation areas. At last it hummed into a blue globe of intense light. As I approached it to get a better look, it began to crackle, as if reacting to my presence. The scientist within me convinced my body to lurch forward, as my common sense and sense of self-preservation failed me.
Before I could react, the orb expanded into a portal, pulling me in. A rush of emotion and energy flooded my senses. I couldn’t move my body, but I could surely see what was going on around me. Passing through some kind of ebony plane, illuminated by swollen blips of light, I seemed to be going somewhere the blue orb wanted me to go.
My body began to accelerate in speed, when all of a sudden, I was engulfed in a bright, white light.
Slowly opening my eyes, a white hand reached out to me. Feeling threatened, I swatted at it. A gentle voice reacted with a small amount of disdain, but reached out to me once more.
The soft hand grabbed my arm and pulled me out of a marble basin.
“Of all the places to be within the Guiharian Festival of Lights,” she started, “How did you end up in this basin?”
“I’d like to know as well…” I replied.
Until my next entry, farewell.
