There are 15 basic occupations, or character classes on Tempus. Classes affect your basic abilities, including your effectiveness in magic and physical combat. Classes on Tempus are divided into the classes of the past and the classes of the future. Each have their own advantages and disadvantages, which you will learn through experience.The time period from which your character hails must be chosen carefully. If you wish to start in a world of high magic, forests, and demonic imps, you should choose the past. If, however, you prefer a world of cities, science, and cybernetics, you should choose the future. Below are the details on each class.

Classes of the Past
Barbarians
Barbarians are the fierce fighters of the past. They rely on their high physical strength dexterity and constitution to virtually pound their opponents into a bloody pulp. However, they are not very intelligent and this causes them a few problems when trying to learn new skills. Once these skills are learned, they are nearly undefeatable.Bard
Bards tend to travel with groups of people on missions and quests to keep spirits high. The Bard, being a natural traveller, has many different skills, but most of their power is through songs and sonic attacks. They are able to channel the spiritual energies of the universe into songs that aid their entire party as well as themselves. Bard functions at their best when neutrally aligned. Should their align drift towards evil, their protection songs will suffer for it. Should it drift towards good, their damage songs and skills will suffer. Bards must PERFORM their songs with a musical instrument for them to be effective.Mages
The User of Magic is an intelligent individual, in perpetual striving to uncover forgotten lore and learn to channel new, more powerful energies. The Magic User, or Mage, channels the untapped mystical energies of the universe through a procedure called ‘casting’. Certain magical patterns for casting, of varying complexity, are used to produce the desired effects, and these patterns are called ’spells’Thieves
The thief is a person which exists alongside society, rather than within, or even necessarily without. The thief lives by skills and cunning, and relies on the elements of surprise, trickery, and stealth. Thieves can be good or evil, depending on how they choose to use their skills.Rangers
The ranger is a person of the natural world, a dweller of the forest. A ranger is most at home in the forest, able to move freely and easily from place to place with stealth and good footing. The abilities of the ranger are those which come naturally to a person of the world, and they are able to draw upon the mystical energies surrounding the prime material plane as well, manifest as casting spells.Clerics
The Cleric is a holy (or unholy) defender of the tenets of his or her faith. Clerics are able to take up arms and go into battle to support the creed, and can call upon the power of their deity to cast spells. The spells available to a Cleric are generally of the protection, healing, creation, combat, elemental, and necromantic spheres. All clerics have the ability to turn away undead creatures such as ghouls, ghosts, and wights, but good clerics are prevented by their religion from using sharp weapons. In order to cast spells, clerics must carry a holy item which serves as a symbol of their faith.Evil Clerics worship the god of Pain, Zhel. Due to the nature of their deity, evil clerics have minimal abilities as far as healing and aid are concerned, but have heightened powers of death and destruction. Kalar’s influence is most powerful during the dark period accompanying the new moon.
Good Clerics worship the goddess of Truth and Beauty, Guiharia. These clerics are powerful healers. The goddess’ powers are greatest during the period of the full moon.
Knights
The knight is a class of holy warrior, whose sole purpose in life is to make sure the causes of good and justice are upheld. The knight spends his or her life training to be able to take whatever actions are necessary. The primary abilities of the knight are Strength, Constitution, and Wisdom. Any race of player may be a knight except the beastly Half-Orc.In order to call upon the power of his or her deity, the knight must wear a holy symbol of his faith. After the knight reaches level 4, no spells can be cast without the symbol.
If a knight becomes evil, he or she will become an anti-paladin, a follower of the god of war, Veloth. The healing spells of the evil knight are inferior to those of the good knight, but the spells which cause damage and pain are enhanced.
Monks (Past & Future)
The Monks of Tempus hold a special place with their neutrality. They are a spiritually focused class, retreating into deep meditation at times. Skilled in the art of hand to hand combat, they are second to none in that area. Although capable of wielding a weapon, a Monk is most comfortable fighting hand to hand. Their grace and agility in battle is legendary.Classes of the Future
Psions
Most inhabitants of the realms of the past have an innate mental connectiveness with the rest of the cosmos. After centuries of development, some people have been able to master the arts of psychic abilities. The Psychic is able to trigger certain specific points on the minds of living beings.Physics
In the future, those that are truly wise have perfected the art of physics. Perfected it so much, in fact, that they are can now use it to kill. No longer are they the geeks that sit in labs watching balls roll down inclines… now they are scientists from hell, and they aren’t going to take geek jokes any longer.Cyborg
Cyborgs are mechanical inhabitants of the future, endowed with the ability to modify their own systems to make them quite potent warriors. A mixture of man and machine, this class is quite different from the rest. A Cyborg has not only its flesh side to consider but must also care for its mechanical nature. However, Cyborgs inherently have several natural advantages when it comes to implanting. But like most machines, a Cyborg never likes to be outside in a thunderstorm.Mercenaries
Mercenaries are futuristic rebels, with no particular cause. They love guns. They especially love big guns. Mercenaries have a wide variety of skills and have become quite adept at slinking undetected through the world.
