Like any society, Tempus has developed its own lingo and vernacular. Confused about some of the terms used on Tempus? Fear not, here is a detailed list.
AC - armor class; the lower the number greater the protection
Acap - ac-apply; armor class apply
Adren - the trigger adrenaline
AFK - away from keyboard; the status of not being there
Aggro - mobs that will attack players on sight; the property of a mob that makes it attack on sight
Alias - a customized command for another command or set of commands
Align - alignment; points on a scale that determine one’s moral standing
Alter - command to use physic abilities
Anon - anonymous; the hiding of one’s own level on the who list
AOE - area of effect; a spell that works in effect of an entire room
Arc - the alteration electric arc
Ave Dam – Average Damage – The total amount of base damage a weapon has before bonuses are added.
Backer – a stabbing weapon used by thieves to backstab
Bal - Balance: the amount of money in a bank
Barb - barbarian
BBL - be back later
Beheader - a weapon recognized as a usable for beheading
Bolt - the spell lightning bolt
Borg - cyborg
BRB - be right back
Cap - maximizing an attribute or gaining the maximum amount of exp possible in one kill; to player-kill someone
CHA - Charisma attribute
Channel - a communication channel
Char - character
Cler - cleric
CON - Constitution attribute
Confi - the trigger confidence
CPK - chaotic pkilling zone; pkilling and looting is allowed
Cryo - Cyrogenic freezing; allows players to pay one flat rate to rent for an extended period
Dam - Damage Roll
Dam reduc - damage reduction; prevents a certain percentage of damage to a target
Desc - description; a room’s summary of the senses
DEX - Dexterity attribute
Dice - dice damage; the weapon’s ability to deal damage
Disp - Dispel magic
DoS - Discipline of Steel
DR – Damroll: Damage Room – Rooms that will cause players to take damage and possibly lead to death.
Drachs - Dracharnos
DT - death trap; a rare room where one instantly dies; Detect - the spells used to detect certain flags or actions; the skill deathtouch
EC - Electro Centralis; the central city of the future
ECON – Energy Conversion – A physicist skill that takes items and converts them into energy for mana restoration.
ECU - Electro Centralis University
EMP - the alteration electromagnetic pulse
Enc - encumbrance; the amount of weight one carries
Encum - Encumbrance: the total weight of items carried and equipment worn
EPoA - Elemental Plane of Air
EPoE - Elemental Plane of Earth
EPoF - Elemental Plane of Fire
EPoI - Elemental Plane of Ice
EPoO - Elemental Plane of Ooze
EPoS - Elemental Plane of Smoke
EPoW - Elemental Plane of Water
EQ - equipment
Exp - experience; a measure of points that allow players to progress in level
Fail - Fail Family Legacy
Flags - extra descriptors following a player’s name on the who list
Flood - the trigger melatonic flood
Frozen - the status of not being able to do anything at all; an immortal punishment
Future - the future Electro era of Calidan
Gag - gagmiss; missed attacks will not show up on screen
Gen - generation; refers to the number of times a player has remortalized
Gith – Githyanki Fortress – a floating island inside the astral plane.
Grav - the alteration gravity well
Hammy - hamstring; to use the skill hamstring on someone
Help/help files - a command to view help files
Hip - the skill hiptoss
Hit – Hitroll – An indicator that calculates the possibilities of hitting a target. The higher the number the better.
Hobs - Hobgoblin Cave; also refers to hobgoblins in general
HP – Hitpoints – the amount of life your character has.
HR - hitroll
HS – Holy Square – center of the Holy City of Modrian; the central gathering place of the past & starting place for many adventures.
HTOM – High Tower Of Magic – a place where mages of the world go to learn the deepest mysteries of magic
Hunted - a flag; an object that is typically hunted by devils for their repossesion
ID - identify; to determine the attributes of a person or object; to invoke a form of the spell ‘identify’
Id Insin - the trigger id insinuation
Imm- Immortal – one of the administrators of the game.
Immoth - Immoth Hollow
INT - Intelligence attribute
Invis - refers to the invisibility spell or the state of being invisible
IRL – In Real Life – Outside The Game
JK - just kidding; joking
K - a thousand; okay; sure
KKI – Kiddie Kandy Inc. – a popular zone where wild children and looney robots stop you from taking their candy treats.
Knig - knight
Krom - The Plane of Kromguard
Lear - The Caves of Learander
Lick - to lick someone, commonly used as a greeting or to show a liking or agreement
Loaded – Items or Mobs that are available in the game at any given time
Lol - Laugh out loud
Loot/full loot - the objects within container; to take items from a character or mob you killed
LP - life points; used to improve attributes
LVL - level; a character’s level; to gain experience; the process of killing mobs specifically for experience
Mahl - Castle Mahlhevik; the mob Mahlhevik
Males - dracharna males from the zone Dracharnos; vicious giant insects
Mana_Tap - a flag that gives players the quality of regaining mana at a rapid rate
Mav - The Magical City, Mavernal
Merc - mercenary
Metab - the trigger metabolism
Mil - million; an amount of cash or coins
Mobs - mobile; a non-playable character
Mod - Modrian; the central city of the past
Mogra - The Forest of La’Mogra
Mort - mortal; a player who has not yet remortalized; a non-imm
Move_Tap - a flag that gives players the quality of regaining movepoints at a rapid rate
MP - mana points
Mshield - mana shield
MUD - Multi-User Domain/Dungeon
Mudmail - Tempus’ mail system
Multi – Multiple Character – any alias character you have in your main account.
MV - move points
Negs - negatives; the point at which a level 49 player reaches negative exp, signifying that he or she can remortalize
Newb/noob/n00b - newbie; an inexperienced player
Nod - to agree with or to say yes to
Np - no problem
NPK - neutral pkilling zone; pkilling is allowed, but no looting
NVZ - non-violence zone; no attack allowed whatsoever
Oxi - the alteration oxidize
Past - the Medieval Modrian era of Calidan
Phyz - physic
Pinch - to pinch a nerve, of which the location is known only to monks
PK – Player Killing – an act of attacking another player
Plane - a collection of zones in the same dimension
Primary - a character’s initially chosen class
Prime - the plane of the planets: Calidan, Kromos
Pris/Priz - prismatic spray; to use the spell prismatic spray; prismatic sphere
Progs - Immortal created special effects of the world
PS - player steal
PSI - psionic
QP - quest point; highly valued point only obtainable through special means
Quad - quad damage; special item or effect that allows players to deal 4x damage for a time
Rang - ranger
Recall - using a spell or other means to instantly return to a certain room
Regen - regeneration; slowly regaining health, mana, or stamina
Rein - Reinforce: increases a piece of equipment’s resistance to degradation by 25% and increases weight by one pound
Remort - Remortalize; also refers to a player who has remortalized; Gen 1+
Renegade - Tower of the Renegade Archmage
Rent - allows players to leave the game without losing equipment for a certain fee
Rep - reputation; status of a character that determines whether he/she is a criminal or not
Retrieve - to get one’s corpse back in the afterlife with or without the use of a retriever
RHToM - Ruins of the High Tower of Magic
Rift - a portal in time; can be created by a bard or physic
Rodinia - The main continent on the planet Calidan
ROFL - rolling on the floor laughing
Sac - sacrifice; to rid the existing plane of an object currently in the room on the ground
Sanc/Sanct - sanctuary
Search - a command; a special command for activating a room’s programming; to use a room’s search
Secondary - a character’s second class chosen at remortalization
Shroud - shroud of obscurement
SKP/Skpt/Skully – Skullport: a lawless cavern city beneath Undermountain, mostly populated by the evil Drow
Soulless - status gained through an evil cleric or knight’s sacrifice that grants them greater spell effectiveness, immunity to hunting demons
SP - Star Plaza; center of Electro Centralis
Spam -to enter commands excessively at a rapid rate
Spell up - applying a full complement of spells, alterations, triggers, songs or zens giving beneficial effects
Spew - a special channel designed for use of swearing
SS - Slave Square; central intersection in Skullport
ST – Silver Tower – a holy tower that is the gateway into the Celestial Heavens, also home of the High Priestess
Stats - status; the affects or attributed points of a player or object
Stig - stigmata; to cast the spell stigmatastalker -abr,v,n- unholy stalker; to cast the spell unholy
Stooges - Alpha, Beta, Gamma; three fearsome cyborgs from the future
STR - Strength attribute
Sus/Sust - ring of sustenance; a magical ring used to quench thirst
Symbol - holy symbol; an object used for casting spells for a certain faith
Tank - the lead attacker in a group who actively fights the mobs and absorbs most of the damage
Tarr - tarrasque; an infamous mob, considered to be one of the deadliest
Telek - the spell telekinesis
Thac0 - to hit armor class 0; the necessary hit die roll needed to hit a target with 0 AC
Thi - thief
TNL - to/’til next level; the amount of exp necessary for a player to ascend to the next level
Trans - transport; an immortal command for transporting a player or a mob; refers to the transmittance spell or the transparent effect
Transp - effect in which one is not visible to those without ‘retina’ or ’sonic_imagery’
Trig - Trigger: a MUD client based term for issuing command(s) during a certain event; psionic ability
Vamps - vampires; Bourbon St and Theatre
Vest - magical vestment; to cast magical vestment on an object
Vis up - remove one’s own invisibility and/or transparency
Vol – Volatile Potions – potions that can be founded throughout the game that gives the ability to replenish mana.
Vstone - vestigial stone; an object imprinted with a vestigial rune, used to return to a specified location
VW - Virtual World of NETWORK
Vz - violence zone; attacking permitted
Who - to prompt a list of players and immortals that are currently online
WIS - Wisdom attribute
Wiz - wizard; an alias for a mage; administrator - an overseer of Tempus
WTB - want to buy
WTF - what the f*ck?
WTH - what the hell
Zone - an area of the world
! - indicates an incompatibility with the word following the exclamation
!Pain - Nopain; psion trigger or effect
!PK - a zone in which player killing is not allowed
* - an ambiguous term used by the immortal Wish. Can mean just about anything
