playerkilling.jpg

The world can be a dangerous place, and player killing is an integral part of the game play experience. During your explorations and combat with monsters, robots and deites, also be on the lookout for potential player assassins.

choosing-to-murder.jpg

Choosing to engage in PK will not only alter the way mobs respond to your character, but also the ways other players respond to you and all your characters. The challenge of assassinating or robbing another player’s character can be exciting for some, but keep in mind that MUDs are interactive social games when making your decision.

zone-designations.jpg

Player killing has certain limitations based on intrinsic qualities of particular areas of the universe.

There are three zone designations: !PK, NPK, and CPK.

arrow.jpg !PK - no pkill allowed (except bounty hunting)
arrow.jpg NPK - Pkill allowed, no looting, no stealing
arrow.jpg CPK - Pkill, looting and stealing allowed

During your travels you are informed when you cross from one PK designation to another.

reputation.jpg

Reputation is a number value between 0-1000 indicating how notorious of a killer you are. New characters start off with a 0 reputation. Upon remorting for the first time, your character automatically gains 5 reputation points as an indication of your character’s maturity, thus plunging you into the more dangerous world of potential player killing.

A character gains reputation through harmful actions, such as stealing or killing players of lower levels and generations than they are. Preying on the weak has consequences. The greater the difference in levels between you and your victims, the faster your reputation will worsen.

Your character’s reputation leaks into your account, affecting all your characters. After a player earns a high enough reputation even their new characters start off in the pkill system. There is no way to reverse your reputation.

ranking.jpg

The visible indication of your reputation is your rank. Your reputation rank is visible by typing
score, and is also visible to everyone else through the who kills command. The rankings are:

Innocent, Mostly Harmless, Unfriendly, Unkind, Cold, Daunting, Feared, Frightening, Dreaded, Terrifying, Monstrous, True Killer

Characters reaching a -Cold- reputation are considered criminals and are subject to attack by bounty hunters and law enforcement.

bounty-hunting.jpg

Players who wish to pkill without the negative consequences may enjoy the sport of bounty hunting. Bounty hunting criminals has the following advantages over non-bounty pk:

arrow.jpg No reputation increase.
arrow.jpg A large sum of money is removed from your quarry and paid directly to you.
arrow.jpg A warm fuzzy feeling from taking part in discouraging indiscriminate and unfair pk.
arrow.jpg No restrictions to the limits of !PK zones, though quarry may be not be loot-able in NPK zones.

To place a bounty on a criminal you must register at a local bounty clerk.
Type help bounty for the locations of official bounty clerks.

Usage: register bounty <player name>

You may not register as a bounty hunter if you are a criminal, and only criminals may be hunted. You may only register for hunting one character at a time. Renting and disconnecting will not affect your bounty registration, but once the criminal dies by your hand, you must re-register to kill them again.

pardons.jpg

The pardon command may be used within 24 hours if you’ve been accidentally killed or robbed by another player (Oops!). When you pardon a character all grievances are rescinded and the attacker’s reputation is restored.

Usage: pardon <player>
