Alignment
Alignment is simply a numeric measurement of how good, neutral, or evil you are at any given time. As you kill things, your alignment is constantly updated to reflect this. For example, if you kill many good aligned halflings, your character will slowly turn evil. If you kill a bunch of hobgoblins, you will slowly turn good. Monks, Clerics, Knights, and Bards all need to watch their alignment carefully because changing alignments has severe penalties for these characters. Furthermore, much of your equipment may have restrictions of user alignment. For instance, equipment taken from very evil mobs may often reject users who are good- or neutral- aligned.
